Terrible Lizards Bosses and How to Beat Them

Every major Terrible Lizards encounter, from the Brontosaurus hunts to the Allosaurus fuse chase and the final Hybrid, with the route that ends each fight.

Last Updated: 2026-11-01

Terrible Lizards does not have bosses in the usual sense. There are no health bars, no attack patterns to memorize, and no weapons. The creatures are obstacles with legs. You "beat" them by reaching an exit, completing an objective, or putting a wall between you and the animal.

That design is consistent across all four chapters. The Brontosaurus is a patrol and a chase. The Allosaurus is a hunter that can cut through rooms. The final Hybrid is a scripted pursuit up a moving lift. Once you stop looking for a weak point, the encounters become much easier to read.

Quick answer

You cannot kill the dinosaurs. Each encounter ends when you finish an objective or escape. The Brontosaurus is beaten by restoring power and placing four dynamites. The Allosaurus is beaten by completing the fuse panel and reaching the exit. The final Hybrid is beaten by restoring the special-spectrum lights and completing the two-minute ascent.

How encounters work

The game uses three encounter types:

  • Chases. A scripted route with a dinosaur behind you. The exit is fixed, and the challenge is not stopping.
  • Hunts. A free-roam space with a patrolling dinosaur. You complete objectives while avoiding its patrol.
  • Arenas. A contained space where you must complete a task before the exit opens. The Brontosaurus dynamite sequence is the clearest example.

The game does not scale the creatures' health or damage. A hit is a reset, not a damage state. That means the correct strategy is always route-based: know where you are going before the encounter starts.

The Paleo Pal (Chapter 1 tutorial chase)

The first pursuit is a mascot, not a dinosaur. It happens in the gift shop and back rooms of Chapter 1, after you restore the fuses. The Paleo Pal patrols the lower floor while Jordan crosses the upper route.

This is a tutorial for the chase rules. The mascot is slow, the route is short, and the checkpoint is close. The lesson is that you should keep moving and follow the lights, not turn around to look.

If you die here, you will respawn at the start of the escape. The stuffed animal is the only thing you can lose, and only if you were carrying it.

The Brontosaurus

The Brontosaurus is the first real dinosaur and the main threat of Chapter 2. It appears at the end of Chapter 1 as a floodlight silhouette, then becomes a patrol in the Digsites.

First appearance (Chapter 1)

The Chapter 1 appearance is a scripted chase through the gift shop and into the caverns. You cannot fight it, and you cannot hide. Follow the yellow lights, slide under the shutters, and keep moving until the chapter ends.

Chapter 2: the power loop

The Brontosaurus patrols the Digsites while you restore power. The route is:

  1. Start the two generators.
  2. Climb the foreman's tower and enter 0451.
  3. Press the red button and take the camera from the table.
  4. Cross the platforms and survive the first Brontosaurus escape.
  5. Repair the bunker keypad with the part from the left platform, then enter 0978.
  6. Activate the three sub-switches.
  7. Complete the three kill switches while the Brontosaurus hunts you.
  8. Take the elevator (1677), descend the shaft, and recover the gondola key.
  9. Open the gate and cross the flooded cave.
  10. Enter 0180 at the safe house, take the dynamite, and blow the wall.

The Brontosaurus is not defeated by any of this. It is redirected. The power loop changes the route, and the dynamite opens the path to the arena.

Chapter 2: the four dynamites

The chapter ends in a large structure with four dynamite placements. The common mistake is to assume this is a four-fuse puzzle like the others. It is not.

  • Place three dynamites around the outer walkways.
  • Place the fourth behind the structure, under the light.
  • The detonator is at the fourth placement.
  • The Brontosaurus keeps patrolling while you work.

Once all four are placed, detonate them. The explosion ends the encounter and the chapter. Patch 1.0.9 fixed an invisible collider that could appear after the falling boulders in the second Brontosaurus hunt, so make sure you are on the latest build.

The Allosaurus

The Allosaurus is the Chapter 3 threat. It is faster than the Brontosaurus, and it can enter rooms that look safe. The chapter uses it in three phases: a warning encounter, a first hunt, and a second hunt built around the fuse panel.

The first encounter

The first Allosaurus appearance is a cutscene and a short warning, not a chase. It establishes that the animal is in the rail caverns and that the crew knew about it. You cannot fail this encounter.

The first hunt: the rules

The first real hunt happens after the train worksite. The game gives you a note called The Allo Has Rules, and the note is literal: a short stare can interrupt the Allosaurus charge. You do not need to hold the stare. A brief look is enough to make it break off, which gives you time to reach a gap.

The route is:

  1. Trigger the hunt and move toward the narrow gap.
  2. If the Allosaurus charges, look at it briefly, then run.
  3. Slide through the small hole when the floor collapses.
  4. Follow the flood chase to the wall-run section.
  5. Use the adhesive wall to reach the upper route.

The hunt is not a boss fight. You are trying to reach the next area, not defeat the animal.

The second hunt: the four fuses

The second Allosaurus hunt is built around a central fuse panel in the large rail cavern. Four fuses must be inserted, and the Allosaurus patrols the space while you search.

The four fuses are in:

  1. The generator enclosure, on a green workbench.
  2. The ground-floor office with the wide window.
  3. The upper wooden office, on the same level as the shed key.
  4. The locked wooden shed, which needs the shed key.

The shed key is in the upper key cabinet, reached from the wooden ladder near the Call It In sign. The route uses hanging bars and an adhesive wall. If you miss the cabinet, you will reach the shed with no way in.

Once all four fuses are inserted, the lights on the central panel turn green. The main console opens the gate, and the route continues to the Motherlode structure. Patch 1.0.9 fixed a bug where not all four fuses registered.

The final escape

The chapter ends with a last Allosaurus pursuit through an organic cave. The route is linear: follow the yellow lights, use the ramps and ledges, and do not stop at the pedestal until the animal is behind you. Place the stuffed animal at the pedestal near the sloped building, then reach the exit.

The Dilophosaurus Hybrid (final encounter)

The final creature is the Hybrid, and the game treats it as a scripted pursuit rather than a fight. The encounter has three parts: the lights, the lift, and the ascent.

Restore the special-spectrum lights

After you find DJ and give him the Allosaurus tooth, the Hybrid appears. You need to restore the special-spectrum lights to drive it back. The system has three auxiliary switches around the outer wall and a main switch in the gated area.

The switches are easy to miss because the area is dark and the Hybrid patrols the perimeter. Follow the anti-clockwise wall, hit each auxiliary switch, then return to the main switch. The lights come on, and the creature retreats.

Recover the crew lift key

The lights reveal that the crew lift key was taken into Cavern B. The entrance is blocked, so you need dynamite from the back of Cavern A. Blow the entrance, climb the scaffolding and the spire, and take the key from the remains at the top.

The Hybrid will chase you on the way back. The route is the same, but the encounter is faster. Do not stop to read the notes in Cavern B until you have the key.

The two-minute ascent

The finale is a two-minute climb up a moving lift structure. The Hybrid attacks the lift, and Jordan has to wall run, mantle, and swing up the outside of the structure to reach it.

The ascent is the hardest movement sequence in the game. The route is:

  1. Start the lift.
  2. When the Hybrid attacks, jump to the wall and run.
  3. Mantle the platforms, swing across the gaps, and keep climbing.
  4. Reach the top and interact with the Hybrid.
  5. Kick it off the structure.

The timer is generous if you keep moving. The fail state is falling, not running out of time. If you miss a jump, you will restart at the checkpoint, which is the start of the ascent.

Which encounter is the hardest?

The second Allosaurus hunt is the hardest sustained encounter because it combines a free-roam search with a patrolling hunter. The final ascent is the hardest single movement sequence. The Brontosaurus arena is the most forgiving because the dynamite placements are close together and the animal's patrol is predictable.

If you are stuck, the answer is usually route knowledge, not execution. Learn where the fuses or switches are, then run the route without stopping.

FAQ

Can you kill the dinosaurs? No. There is no combat system. The encounters end when you complete an objective or escape.

How many bosses are there? The game has four major creatures: the Paleo Pal mascot, the Brontosaurus, the Allosaurus, and the Dilophosaurus Hybrid. None of them have health bars.

Is the Brontosaurus a boss? It is the main threat of Chapter 2, but it is a patrol and a chase, not a traditional boss. You redirect it with power and dynamite.

What is the strongest dinosaur? The Hybrid is the final and most aggressive creature. The Allosaurus is the most persistent hunter.

Do you need to fight the Hybrid? No. The final interaction is a scripted kick, not a combat sequence. You need to reach the top of the lift.

Can you skip a boss? No. The encounters are tied to chapter progression. You can skip collectibles, not the creatures.

The chase sequences guide breaks down each pursuit route. The movement guide covers the wall runs and mantles you need for the final ascent. The Chapter 3 walkthrough has the full fuse route.
